This is a small story behind my passion for cartography.
I wasn’t always surrounded by the maps I admire and collect today. At first, I carefully selected every atlas or map I needed to use. Then, one day, the need to create a map emerged.
There is a quote that almost perfectly describes this beginning:
“If there’s a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.”

In my case, it wasn’t about a book, but about a map. I needed to use a map that didn’t yet exist, so I decided to create it myself – even though, at that time, I had no understanding of what cartography involved or how maps were made. I only had a passion for design and drawing.
Over time, this curiosity turned into a professional path. I studied Cartography and currently work as a cartographer at Esri Romania, where I extensively apply my technical skills. I also enjoy writing: I am an Editor at Maplines, the journal of the British Cartographic Society, and I frequently contribute articles to my company’s blog.
For me, cartography is more than a profession – it is a way of illustrating the world. I enjoy creating maps that tell stories, convey emotions, and offer new perspectives on the spaces we inhabit.
